Happy Women’s Day
“Give a girl the right shoes and she can conquer the world.”
In honour of Women’s Day 2024, I’m proud to announce that I am now supporting The Invisible Girl Project (which rescues babies and girls from female gendercide / trafficking and provides them with a new home / education) and Pratham UK (which provides girls with an education and employment opportunities – a second chance to girls who may have dropped out of school)
I have donated a total of £500 from the sales made from Better Food Mood.
I’m grateful for your support, this would not have been possible without you supporting my business.
Being able to help these girls has been at the bottom of my heart for a long time.
I distinctly remember, I was about 10 years old and was on holiday in India. On the table, I saw a newspaper the size of the FT. There was a column running down the entire right hand side of the newspaper with about 8-10 short statements like this:”a girl aged 8 was raped in …. village”, “baby girl found dead in…”, “a girl brutally murdered and hung from a tree in said village.”
The very next day, I checked the newspaper again to find the same column with another 8-10 short statements. I could not understand how this was ok on any level and why wasn’t anyone doing anything about this? A rubbish story about a minister was taking up a bigger space on the front page. Is a girl’s life not worth anything?
That day, I knew that someday in my lifetime I would try to change this.
Whilst I cannot do anything about preventing a girl/woman ending up in the wrong place at the wrong time, providing them with an education, rescuing them from unsafe environments and providing them with the means to be independent could greatly change the odds of such a situation arising. Furthermore, the next generation of girls will have their life trajectory changed because their mums will now have had an education/opportunity to be independent.
I want to wish all my ladies a happy Women’s day for tomorrow. No matter who you are or what you have been through, know that you are amazing.
