This immunity booster Amla powder, kiwi fruit, blueberry, grape and spinach green smoothie is loaded with vitamin C and Iron.
I used fresh spinach and fresh fruits for this recipe. My kiwi fruit was overly ripe, so this smoothie was perfect for using it up.
Did you know that eating iron rich foods alongside Vitamin C rich foods greatly increases iron absorption?
This is why I prefer to eat my greens with vitamin C loaded fruit and vegetables.
This amla, fruit and spinach recipe is perfect as the high Vitamin C content in Amla powder and the kiwi fruit, blueberries and grapes massively increases the iron absorption from the spinach.
Amla is a very bitter powder with a sweet after taste. It’s difficult to eat amla powder on its own but add it to juices or smoothies and it is a game changer.
It goes so well in smoothies and it adds a wonderful tangy taste to this green smoothie to balance the sweetness from the fruits.

For those of you who haven’t heard of Amla powder, it is made from Amla, also known as the Indian Gooseberry.
Amla is now gaining popularity as a superfruit. A 100g serving of Amla berries contains as much Vitamin C as 20 oranges!
Amla powder is the concentrated dry form of this Amla fruit, so you can imagine that even 1 tsp or a half tsp would be loaded with so much Vitamin C.
Amla powder has been used in Ayurveda (traditional Indian medicine) to help with digestion, reducing inflammation and enhancing overall immunity. Amla has also been used for thousands of years as a superfood for healthy hair in India. Many hair oil treatments will incorporate amla as it is known for its outstanding benefits for healthy hair growth in India. Modern science has not yet confirmed this but go to India and mention Amla, anyone will tell you that it’s good for hair.

INGREDIENTS:
1 Kiwi Fruit
Handful of blueberries
Handful of grapes
1/2 tsp of Amla powder
Handful of spinach leaves
Water as required

METHOD:
Blend all the ingredients above and pour into your glass.
I did not need to add any sweetener, the fruits made this smoothie sweet. The amla powder added a really yummy tangy taste to this smoothie.
Garnish with fruits, seeds, nuts and my favourite, granola! I love adding granola to smoothies because it is crunchy and goes so well with smoothies.
